Back to the "Good Life" in Nebraska

We arrived back in Kearney on the 3rd of March. We did escape a lot of winter and we are most grateful for that. It was good to be back but these cold mornings take some time to get use to once again.
We are looking at the calendar and it says spring is arriving next week. We are holding to that fact so we can get the camper out of storage. We are ready for some good days of camping in the early spring when the campgrounds are not crowded.
Happy Spring to all...

Greetings from Havasu.........

We are having a great time so far here in Arizona. We truly wish everyone could have a week of warm and sunny days. We have gotten to see a lot of friends and certainly have had good times since we arrived. Dave is enjoying the pool here at the condo complex and as usual he is getting a great tan. He will be ready for the camping season this spring. We hope this finds everyone well.

Merry Christmas

It looks like Christmas here this morning. I light snowfall on the ground but the sun is shining. Dave and I want to send our wishes to all of you to have a the most merriest of Christmas. We sincerely hope that it is all that you wish for and much, much more.
We have had many blessings this year and we are looking forward to the New Year. We will be starting out 2009 in Arizona. We are lucky to be able to spend January, February and part of March in the sunny southwest. We will be keeping in touch with all of you thru this family blog. We can read how we spend our time.
Happy New Year and may the blessings be many.
Love from us, Dave and Marian

Once again...............

Yes, it has been a long time since I have used the blog. I was hoping to keep it updated with family news. Now that school has started again, maybe I can make it my "homework".
Since we all signed in for being contributors to this blog, things have changed. If you have a google account YOU ARE IN. It is very easy once to establish an account with google which can be done on the main page of google search.
Now that we have kids in all stages of education from college to pre-school, maybe be can have a school round-up or sorts with news of all the school activities. And the "old folks" can get caught up on all them.
Have a great start to the new school year...... Marian

Greetings this holiday Season

We are busy with the holiday season as the same is true with you, I'm sure. Since I hadn't posted for 6 months I thought it was time. Jamie was disappointed that his birthday did not get posted on the blog. I guess there is someone out there reading THESMITHPARTYLINE after all. I missed a lot of others besides Jamie.
First we have several in December so we will started there.
Thad's 9th Troy's 10th Terry's 26th Matthew's 27th
November brought CJ's on the 26th and Karen's on the 30th.
(Karen's was a milestone, by way)
October had lots of birthday Austin on the 2nd, Neleigh's on the 12th
Kendra on the 24th and Marge's on the 27th. Oh yes, Jamie was the 28th.
September was another month of lots of birthdays. Angela's on the 1st, Cori on the 10th, Claire's on 11th and Dave's on the 21st.
August was where I left off but Heidi celebrated on the 12th and I celebrated on the 19th.
Now I think I'm caught up. Better late than never, I guess.
Here's hoping that in 2008 there are more posting from me and from all of you.

Merry Christmas to you all from Dave and Marian

July 31st...Happy Birthday, Brady

I don't want July to end without wishing Brady a Happy Birthday.
Brady is special as he has the only birthday in July for the family.
Hope you are having a great day..............

June has almost bloomed.......................

June birthdays are unique in the family. One is on the first day of the month and one is on the last day.
Lori celebrated on the 1st and Madison will get her turn on the 30th. Happy Birthday to you both.

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Now for the May Birthdays...........

May is a popular month of birthdays. Dayton's is on the 5th. Rebecca celebrates on the 8th, then Patric on the 9th. Taylor has his on the 11th. Lesa celebrated on Mother's Day this year on the 13th. Tyler and Nicholas share the 14th. That's a lot of cake to be eaten in one month.
With the happy times comes sad times, we will always remember Mother in May from now on. I'm sure you all had many people send you cards or say how sorry they are, isn't it amazing how the outpouring of concern can make things easier. Thank God for family and friends in time of sorrow.

It's been awhile....................

April came and went and I didn't get a posting done. I have no excuse.
We can't forget that Whitley celebrated her birthday on the 11th, she turned 8 years old. Also in April the family had three make their First Holy Communion, Matthew, Alex and Whitley.

Everyone thought Jamie would never finish the the turkey run..... But look who came in 3rd.

Happy Holidays from Hiemers

Just a shout out to everyone to have a Merry Christmas. The family battled through the weather to Colorado, even the "rat", Toby (Straka's dog) . We have spent most of our time talking, playing cards, scrabble, connect four, tic tac toe and adventuring outside for some snowball fights. Toby and the dog next door seem to argue a lot, and as you can see in the above picture Heidi and Carol, our neighbor, have not ventured out into the sn0w to stop them. Stacie & Lori's brother in-law, Ken will be coming over with the kids (Mike & Kerry) to have dinner and spend Christmas Eve with us. Sam and Whitley are excited to see them and open up presents after dinner.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

P.S. The Christmas Picture Score is Jamie 4 ---- Thad 0

Sparkling Ice instead of Snow

Instead of snow we had ice. We lost power three times but each time it came back in an hour. We were lucky as there are people still with out power. We hope everyone has safe travels this weekend and able to enjoy Christmas to its fullest.. Merry Christmas from Dave and I.

Covered in Colorado

Ok, which one of you was the wise guy who was dreaming of a "White Christmas"? We definitely have it out here in Erie. We officially got 26" of snow, but the drifts tell a bigger story! Jamie is on top of it though and plans to have the way clear for the Hiemer's arrival on Friday. Merry Christmas Everyone!

Jamie Made it!!!

Yes! Jamie can run two miles. It was tough but he finished. Dad ran right along with him to help him spiritually and physically. Yes! Heidi made it too, but she ran a little farther. No one brought home a big prize. But the beer was waiting at the Hiemer's house. QUESS WHO CAME TO DINNER?? Thanksgiving was great! Mom made a great meal. Nice pictures Thad! Rebecca don't let your dad kid you about your cooking. You are a great cook! Love, Heidi P.S. No lottery winners yet!

Nice Job Thad!!!!!

Nice job brother, but now I am one up on you. This is going to get complicated for Heidi when she wins the lottery. Just wanted to write a little note before the trip home. Lori and I are heading back to Kearney tonight for thanksgiving. Somehow Dad and Heidi talked me into running two miles in a turkey run that happens annually in Kearney, so lets hope I live to write another blog. The good news is that Lori is now a Husker fan. It has taken almost four years of Hiemer style therapy... but mission accomplished. We will be heading to the game on Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone

P.S. The bolwers are coming back to Nebraska..... Stay tuned to find out their new address

Birthdays in November

Besides celebrating Thanksgiving this month, C.J. celebrates his birthday on the 25th and Karen has her turn for celebrating on the 30th. To both a Happy Birthday and many more to come. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone. I really like this holiday and have great memories of my dad enjoying it, too. He usually had suggestions for the meal. He loved to have a duck roasting in the oven with the turkey. He loved to snack on nuts but he always bought them in the shell so he could have the pleasure of shelling them. Mother's Thanksgiving meal was the best and I hope we all have great memories of past Thanksgivings. It is my favorite holiday, I do believe.

What is a Blog

I believe we have a new blog sit called "what is a blog"... I thought it was the title to my blog message. If you are lost at this point feel my pain.... this is the second time I have written this message. The first one is in cyber space...... but enough about my inability to work a website and lets get to the point.
What did I win?
Why is everyone calling out Thad?
Does Heidi have a gambling problem?

Last but not least where are the bowlers?

Dave and I were lucky enough to be able to go the USC/Nebraska game in Los Angeles. We had a great time as we were on a tour with the Las Vegas for Nebraska group. We met a lot of great people all with ties to Nebraska. We went with our good friends, Bernie and Liz Lambe, who live in Las Vegas. The picture is of the four of us...

Mother's 92nd Birthday

We celebrate on the 27th at the Rest Home. Mother was awake and ready for a party when we arrived. She still loves her sweets so we served cake and ice cream. We had lots of residents, visitors, and staff enjoying the treats. Only picture taken was one of four generations. Mother, Marian, Heidi, and Whitley. I will try to post it.

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

Well, a new era has begun. The Smith Family has a blog. I hope this is a spot that the family can keep updated on everyone's activities. Hopefully we can share joys, concerns, school activities, sports scores, and pictures. I 'm learning as I go so bear with me on this adventure. As I understand it we all can create a "post". I need to get those instructions down and pass them along.
